Member Appreciation Breakfast January 23, 2010 The POGC Social Committee continues into the new year with
another successful event in the park. The weather was a little cool, not cold, with a slight breeze coming off the river
but soon warmed up as the sun got higher in the morning sky. We had just planned for a continental breakfast but by
popular demand we decided to add pancakes to the menu. We had 114 members and guests show up for a great meal.
We sold a few new memberships, some renewals as well as some Dinner Dance tickets. Carl Strong won the 50/50 raffle
which was worth $65.00. Thanks to all who supported our breakfast and by the smiles on everyones faces a good time was
had by all. Click here to view pictures.
Gulf Cove Community Clean Up
March
6, 2010 I would like to take a few minutes to thank a great team of people who participated
in the “Great American Cleanup”, March 6 2010. The process for any successful program is planning and execution.
Two ladies from Charlotte County and “Keep Charlotte Beautiful”, Barb Kula and Glenda Anderson, helped
us and guided us through the process starting last October. There are a lot of hoops to jump through.
Meetings, paperwork, emails, calls, all went well. Bags and shirts were furnished by “Keep
Charlotte Beautiful”, gloves and vests were furnished locally. Refreshments and food was graciously
provided by the Property Owners of Gulf Cove Inc. Thank you POGC board and special thanks
to President Tom Johnson, and food prep ladies Jean Menenga and Joan Kubala. Although we don’t
have an accurate weight on the trash collected, guesstimates are coming in at around 4 ton. We shall see. We
had a broad cross section of “stuff” brought to the park, from vehicle rear ends, to televisions, to tires.
Speaking of tires, at last count there were 61 tires and rims brought in. The two “Odd load awards” go
to Tom Johnson, and to Dave and Kaye Carlson, I still don’t know what some of the “stuff” was they brought.
What a day!!! I hope I was the only one to get sunburned.
Lots of pictures were taken and are now posted on the POGC website WWW.gulfcove.Org. Thanks so much for all your support. See you
in a couple of years. Click here to view pictures.

Easter in the Park April 3, 2010 After spending a cold winter, summer waited until today to
arrive just in time for our annual Easter Egg Hunt in the Gulf Cove Park. What a beautiful day! On Friday many
of our would be Easter Bunnies stuffed around 1,000 plastic eggs with candy and numbers for prizes. On Saturday, over
90 adults watched 63 kids excitedly hunt the eggs. During the morning registration we served coffee and donuts for the
adults and juices and cookies for the kids. The really exciting moment for the kids was when the Easter Bunny arrived
by boat from the Myakka River. Click here to view pictures.
Hot Dogs in the Park April 22, 2010 Our first
evening event in the park, which ran for 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, was a great success. Over 50 POGC Members and Guests show
up for grilled hot dogs, chips, and sodas. We all were treated to live music performed by Gulf Cove resident and POGC
Member Ed Feehan. Ed left work early at his business Roadrunner Auto Repair to perform for his community at no charge.
Several members brought some very delicious deserts. The 50/50 raffle of $19.00 was won by Fern Schreiner. We gave our
share to Ed as our appreciation for his music, but rather than keep it he donated it to the POGC Marina legal fund.
We all can't wait for our next evening event which will be a Mexican night. So keep checking our events page for notices.

Mothers Day Breakfast May 8, 2010 Blessed with a beautiful morning,
over 60 faithful POGC members and guests showed up for a great Mothers Day breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and
pancakes. To put on one of these events takes a lot of work and we would like to thank our entire crew for all their
hard work. Hats off to Tom & Becky Wirth, Mike & Jean Donohue, Jean Mennenga, Tony Heller, Lou Spacco, Pat Johnson,
Dave & Karen Cormier, Geri McGary, and Dean Ruger. We also would like to thank Susan Priess for her generous donation
of two sets of earrings for door prizes. Connie Attardi won the 50/50 raffle. Thanks also
to Geri McGary and Carl Strong for contributing their photos. Click here to view pictures.
Fathers Day Breakfast June 19, 2010 50 of the POGC faithful were served a fantastic Fathers Day
breakfast, sausage gravy biscuits, scrambled eggs, sausage patties, and pancakes, in our beautiful Gulf Cove riverside park
pavilion. We had a typical Florida Saturday morning, a little warm and humid with little breeze. Once again the
donation can paid for the event. Click here to view the pictures.
4th of July Picnic July 3, 2010 Over 50 faithful
POGC members and guests gathered at the Gulf Cove Park Pavilion to join in the celebration of the birth of our great nation.
Mother Nature seems to always smile on our Gulf Cove events, as the threatening weather held off until after our cookout was
over. "Mariner" Mike Donohue insists that the Gulf Cove Dome is solely responsible for keeping the bad weather
away from the Park during our picnics. The overcast sky and gentle breeze from the river made for a very pleasant morning
and afternoon. MVP Sport Shop donated several items for door prizes and some members contributed some as well.
Carl Strong won the 50/50 raffle of $22.00 and very generously donated it right back to the POGC treasury. Thanks to
Tom and Becky Wirth, Jean Mennenga, Warren and Laura Fishpaw, Pat Johnson, and Mike Donohue for all their hard work in putting
this event on. And what great potluck food brought by everyone. Also a special thanks to Carl Strong for all the
wonderful pictures. Click here to view pictures. Now its time to take a break during these hot summer days and looking forward to September. Have a great summer
everyone.
Labor Day Picnic 2010 September 4, 2010 Again we were blessed with perfect weather for our special
Labor Day Picnic. I say special because we decided, at the suggestion of our 2nd Vice President Becky Wirth, that we
needed to incorporate this picnic with a food drive to collect food for a worthy food pantry. We cannot express the
generosity of our POGC members and guests. 75 members and guests filled 8 large storage bins full of all kinds of canned
goods, dry goods, and paper products to be given to our chosen food pantry. We also partnered with the Old Navy Store
which offered a 30% discount coupon on purchases accompanied with a food donation. Thanks for the large box of food
stuffs delivered by Old Navy Store Manager James Allen. What a great day and the joy of giving to those less fortunate
than we. The food was out of this world as usual and the 50/50 raffle of $35.00 was won by Pat Johnson and she donated
it right back to POGC. It takes a lot of work to put on a event like this but it is so gratifying. Thanks to all
who volunteered and helped. As always the pictures tell the story. Click here to view the pictures. More pictures to come. |
