Al Beninati     1933 - 2010

POGC and the Gulf Cove Community has just experienced a tremendous loss.  Al Beninati has passed away after a long illness.  Al was a long time resident of Gulf Cove and a staunch supporter of our Association.  Not many people new just how sick Al was over the past year as he confided in only a few close friends.  I am proud to say that I was one of them.  My only regret is that I did not have more time to spend with Al.  Al was a wealth of knowledge and I so enjoyed our many talks that lasted for hours.  Al always looked out for the best interest of the whole Gulf Cove Community not just the Association.  On behalf of the entire POGC Board of Directors, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his beloved wife Marlynn and his children.

Today was both a sad and joyous day, as many of Al's family and his extended family gathered at the Doan Chapel of the Englewood United Methodist Church to participate in the celebration of Al's life and to mourn his passing.  Many of Al's family members and friends rose to express their memories of Al and how he had touched their lives.  I know Al would have been very uncomfortable in hearing some of the wonderous things said about him because he was a simple a humble man.  Being the humble man he was, he would have never imagined the admiration so many people had for him.  I am sure he would have been very pleased to see that many of his fellow POGC members came to share the moments of this celebration.  Rest in Peace Al, for you will always be in our hearts.
